After a decade of waiting, Rockstar Games finally revealed the first trailer for GTA 6, the highly anticipated new game in the franchise. The video, which was published on July 4, 2023, confirmed many rumors that had been circulating for months, including the presence of the first female protagonist in the series’ history.
The release of GTA 6 is scheduled for 2025, with no specific date yet. The game will be released for PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. It is worth noting that, for now, there is no mention of a PC version and possible requirements, as well as consoles of the previous generation, such as PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One.
The GTA 6 trailer introduces the couple of protagonists of the new adventure. The highlight is Lucia, the first Latin woman to take a leading role in the history of the franchise. Although the video does not reveal the name of her partner, leaks have already pointed out that his name would be Jason.
The details of the plot are still a mystery, but one moment in the video features a conversation between Lucia and Jason in which the protagonist says that the only way to get out of a problematic situation is by “staying together, as a team.” In the background, scenes of the duo carrying out heists, fleeing from the police at high speed, and dating are shown.
Vice City and regions
In GTA 6, players will revisit the city of Vice City, but now in modern times and with the dominance of social media in people’s everyday lives. The city is a representation of Miami and first appeared in the classic Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, from 2002.
The difference is that now there will be more focus on the fictional state of Leonida, which in turn is totally inspired by Florida, in the United States. This means that there will be other regions besides the city with its neon-bathed streets to explore.
The scope of GTA 6 is impressive. According to Rockstar Games, the game is the “largest and most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series of all time.” Sam Houser, founder of Rockstar Games, also took the opportunity to comment that “GTA 6 will continue the studio’s efforts to push the boundaries of what is possible in immersive and story-based open-world experiences.”
When does GTA 6 take place?
This time, GTA 6 promises to deliver the city of Vice City in modern times. This is clear from the constant presence of viral social media videos, depicting absurd and satirical situations from the real world. It is worth remembering that Grand Theft Auto: Vice City originally brought a story set in the 1980s, so the city and the very lifestyle of the citizens has undergone many changes since then.
The GTA 6 trailer is full of references to real-world events. One of the most notable appears at the 1:05 mark of the video, in which a news report shows a man with his face completely tattooed being arrested. This event would be an allusion to the “Florida Joker,” a tattoo model that went viral for resembling the DC character and who was arrested repeatedly in 2017 and 2018 for drug trafficking and illegal gun possession.
Various of the “stories” that appear throughout the trailer are also a portrait of a meme that dates back to 2013 and reports absurd headlines and bizarre events involving people from Florida. This is even clearer with a supposed profile that appears in the trailer, called “PlanetLeonidaMan” – a clear allusion to the original meme in English, “Florida Man.”
The trailer also features several segments involving huge alligators invading backyards of homes and even convenience stores. In real life, there are also several similar records in Florida, especially during breeding seasons when the reptiles are spotted walking around urban areas in search of females.
The GTA 6 trailer is a visual spectacle that leaves fans of the franchise eager for the game’s release. The scope of the title is impressive and the real-world references are a welcome touch of humor. We eagerly await to learn more about the story, characters, and new features that GTA 6 will bring to the series.
